What are Fat Dissolving Injections?

Injection lipolysis, also known as intralipotherapy, is a minimally invasive medical procedure for targeted fat reduction. Commonly referred to as fat dissolving injections, intralipotherapy is a form of mesotherapy and one of the nonsurgical fat reduction options

Fat Dissolving Injections are a safe, effective treatment that reduces fat cells in the treated area. It produces long lasting results, which means you can banish those annoyingly wobbly bits.

These injections can be used to treat small, exercise resistant, pockets of fat around the chin, chest, abdomen, thighs, knees and ankles. It is very effective for body contouring, but is not a treatment for weight loss.

Made up from a number of different plant based compounds that have been refined in a lab environment. Aqualyx dissolves the membranes of fat cells in the treated area. The fat cells become unstable and break open. The fatty acids contained within the cell are then eliminated by macrophages (part of the body’s immune system) and the liver.

 

Are Fat Dissolving Injections suitable for me?​

If you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle and are close to your ideal body weight, but have isolated stubborn areas of fat then injectable dissolving might be suitable.

 

Fat Dissolving can be used on the chin (double chin), upper and lower abdomen, flanks, hips, upper and lower back (‘love handles’), inner and outer thighs, arms, buttocks and calves. 

 

If you have significant weight then fat dissolving is not suitable for you, but other body contouring treatments we offer maybe. If you have recently lost significant weight then the area concerning you may be loose skin which we can improve with skin tightening treatments.

Is it safe and does it hurt?

​

The procedure is extremely safe; data published in the US demonstrates that the risks are very low and side effects are mild.  These will be discussed with you during your consultation.

Lidocaine is added into the deoxycholic acid for your comfort.  The procedure is very well tolerated and almost pain free.  However, there will be a little discomfort (aching, swelling and tenderness) and potential for bruising post treatment for up to 3 weeks.

How many treatments will I need?

 

For best results, it is recommended that you have a course of 4-6 treatments at four-six weeks intervals. Subtle changes can be seen after 1-2 treatments. The number of treatment sessions required will be dependent on the amount of fat being treated, this will be discussed at your consultation.

What is the downtime after treatment?

 

There is no downtime as such, clients can go back to doing their normal routine straight after treatment.  

What aftercare is recommended?

​

After receiving fat dissolving injections, you may have some swelling, redness and bruising at the injection site, but this tends to disappear within 1-3 weeks. Avoid direct sunlight, use of sunbeds and heat treatments during the treatment period. Avoid hot baths and hot showers for 5 days.

Lymphatic drainage massage in the area is also recommended pos treatment.

In some cases is recommended that an elastic compression garment is worn post treatment for several days to get the best results and reduce swelling.

Fat dissolving is not suitable if you:

​

• Have diabetes.

•  Are pregnant

• Are breastfeeding

• Are under 18 years of age

• Are allergic to soy or vitamin B

• Have any hormonal disease

• Have any organ disease- liver or kidney disease.

• Suffer from an immune disorder

• Have any acute, active infection(s)

• Have active skin problem in the area to be treated.

• Are taking blood thinning medicine e.g warfarin.
