How to maintain your fresh summer blonde?

Updated: Mar 9, 2021

Blonde hair might very well be the look of the summer. It's bright, it's bold, it's fresh...but it's also bloody hard work!

To stop your ends from drying out and frizzing up and the colour from turning that orange-yellow there are some serious steps you need to work into your diary. However if you use our tips you'll be loving your blonde locks throughout the whole season!

1. SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP

The most important element to maintaining the perfect blonde is to start in the right place. If you can avoid it don't go for a packet blonde, speak to a good hairdresser and be aware it might take time and money to get the colour you want. If you're going to use bleach, the hairdresser will also be able to treat your hair to maintain it's strength as much as possible.

2. DO NOT OVER-WASH

After you've had your hair died try to go as long as possible before washing it. Over-washing your hair can strip it of it's natural oils and you'll notice that your blonde hair might be dryer anyway than usual so adding an extra day into your wash cycle shouldn't be too tricky.

3. USE A TONING SHAMPOO

Sadly your ashy bleach blonde may well be turning orange without the proper care. You can neutralise this brassiness with purple shampoos and toners. Trust us - you will notice the difference!

4. DO NOT BRUSH YOUR HAIR WHEN WET

To turn your hair blonde you've probably had to use bleach, that's already caused a fair bit of damage so now you're on damage control. Wet hair is more susceptible to be damaged so avoid brushing or combing it until it's dry.

5. AVOID THE POOL

Well, you don't have to avoid it entirely but be aware that bleached hair does have a tendency to go green in chlorine. You could opt for a swimming cap, we also recommend smothering your hair with conditioner before swimming. If you do start going green consider using ketchup - it actually does work!

6. LIMIT YOUR HEAT STYLING

Embrace your natural wave and love those curls. Try to avoid your styling with a hair dryer, straightener or curling tongs, as you know these aren't great for your hair - particularly when it's already in a weakened state.

7. KEEP OUT OF THE SUN

The same way that curling tongs and hair dryers can damage your hair, the sun can really dry out those beautiful blonde locks. Keep your hair protected when you can, think about tactical hair scarves, towels and hats.
